Origin Time! Nothing to watch on TV...cept for this prison documentary...

So on Wednesday how us QUEENSLANDERS were basking in the glory of winning Origin – I was frantically searching for something else to watch on TV. Yes, how un-patriotic of me to not watch the Origin, but I watched up to half time til I figured we had no hope of winning and switched off (mentally). Good for them to win for the State but I’m not a footy girl and I’m not gonna like it for the sake of it (along with the World Cup as well…sorry).

So after the footy, and rain delay after rain delay at Wimbledon (I’m never gonna watch one whole game because of the rain or my lack of awake-ness late at night) I managed to switch over to this documentary on Channel 7 about San Quentin prison. After watching this Prison Break has nothing when compared to this real-life prison. Maybe it was my mood but I could feel the raw emotion watching what the guards had to deal with every day. And unlike the guards on Prison Break who are completely oblivious to gang fights, these guards get tipped off and try to act before it’s too late. We didn’t see it, but one guy was slashed across the face with a shank while guards were frantically trying to find weapons that were being hidden under a bathroom sink. Scary stuff.

Yeah, Prison Break is quite brutal but a lot of the brutality came from what happened outside the jails with people being shot at point-blank range. San Quentin only focused on what happened inside (obviously) and while there were lots of troublemakers – there were a few who were portrayed to be rehabilitated cos they did their time and realised that stabbing a guy to death wasn’t a moral thing to do. Good show to watch if anyone bothered to switch channels.

And onto the daily BB fix, the incident will pulsate throughout the year until the next BB starts. Like, it’s at its peak now, die down when it’s finished, pulsate when auditions start again, then comes and goes at intermittent times and then the story will be brought up again before it starts. But if ‘John’ and ‘Ashley’ (using inverted commas cos they’re obviously not their real names) are afraid to walk down the street just reiterates how hard they thought about the impact on their perception to the audience. Since they did something bad they are obviously going to have a negative image and getting beat up in the streets is a bit far-fetched. Maybe if they didn’t mention it on TV and the media didn’t pick up on that, it wouldn’t happen. Or maybe producers forced words in their mouths. Since the supposed ‘kiss’ between Michael and David you have to question the credibility of the way Channel 10 handles things. Anything to save face, I guess.
