Did we choose the right Australian Idol finalists?

So tonight’s chosen 2 were quite predictable. The way Ten has marketed Jessica Mabuoy since day one was so obvious she probably didn’t need votes to get through.
Both have great voices, and what Mark said about people reworking the same old song is right. We’ve heard that Whitney song over and over again, it’s getting ridiculous.
Now for Reigan Derry, she has a fantastic singing ability but her song choice was not a very challenging song. And again (I can’t believe I’m saying this), but the judges were right saying the accompaniment was a load of bollocks. It sure was. And it was too simple to sing. Even I can sing it without fail (but you won’t see me auditioning). Let’s hope she shows us her true colours cos right now she’s being all hippie and hippiness won’t sell records to the mass market. Boho was so Sienna and we’re over that.
For the first two boys who made it into the final 12 that was also predictable too. Damien Leigh has a fantastic voice and that falsetto was bloody awesome but what is the guy’s main genre? I can’t see him doing rock, or dance. He’s more of a James Blunt boy considering his background in music for the time being.
And Dean Geyer – no surprises there. Good looks, sang last, he’ll be stuck in every tween and teen girls’ mind and vote him through. He’s odds on to win the series because of his good genes in my opinion.
But the whole point of this show is to find talent and good looks who can sing pop songs to sell to the mass market. So far, we’re choosing what the judges want and that can’t be a bad thing. But I sense it’ll turn dodgy very soon. Maybe I’m just tired of this Idol concept because only the ones from series 1 have lasted the distance and everyone else has just disappeared into the thin air. Am I right?
