Australian Idol Semi-Final 4
September 1st 2006 11:45
Well Thursday night’s chosen 2 weren’t a big surprise. Sure, it was highly predictable, but they are talent who have a lot of show for later in the competition. It may sound biased but I think Lavina will go a long way and as much as she’s trying to work away from the success of little sister Emily, she will have that backing throughout the competition. It’ll be a tragedy if she got voted our halfway through and not last until the end.
Lisa Mitchell has this cuteness about her and sings quite contemporary/folky songs. What annoys me is that if the judges love her, they’re portray her to be the best thing since sliced bread so the public is obligated to love her as well. She has a lot to show because her vocal range and style isn’t that flexible in the early stages of the show unlike Lavina but we’ll have to see. She reminds me of that other young chick, Jess, from series 1 that the judges loved but couldn’t handle the week-by-week competitiveness and was voted off in the early rounds of the top 12 final. All talk from the judges, but yet to show if she can deliver.
And for the wildcard round, I’m quite surprised that Lydia Denker didn’t make it into that round. She cried bucket tears by the end of the show. Perhaps it seemed like she was a bit big-headed after the previous night’s performance and how Marcia, Mark and Kyle raved on about how great the performance was and was a shoe in for the top 12. Unfortunately they overlooked her, which is a shame cos she would’ve put some more competition into the wildcard round.
I was quite disappointed with the lack of spontaneity in the new bunch to battle it out on Sunday. None of the names stood out for me as potential Idols in the top 12. A lot of them were the boy-band type (meaning a lot of guys who sang popular pop songs that I’ve grown so sick of). I wouldn’t mind Klancie being in the top 12 for a pretty country girl to compete but who bloody knows these days.
And seeing it was the last semi-final show before wildcard there was an extra 50 minutes of broadcast time left to go. And what do you do? Meticulously plug previous Idols’ new releases, of course. I don’t seem to click with Guy’s stuff anymore – a tad mundane and repetitive. And Anthony Callea oh gosh did he become gayer than what the media first thought of him? That outfit was horrendous. If you didn’t see it, be glad your eyes didn’t feast on it – let’s just say he should fire whoever suggested that he wear what he wore on national TV.
Anyways that’s my rant for tonight, a day late but it’s been quite the week. Not feeling very slanderous today but tune in next time for another recap of reality TV!

Would you consider posting pics with names as a future post? I, for one, would find that quite useful!
Nice review too!
