America's Next Top Model Cycle 7
September 8th 2006 11:30
Well I’ve been highly slack with my updates, it’s been a big week for me personally, and in the media. But in comparison to what’s been happening here that’s affected millions of people, my dilemmas are a very minute impact.
I must acknowledge the tragic news that very real to all of us. I’m very shocked and saddened to hear about Peter Brock being killed while racing in WA today – we obviously didn’t see that coming. We obviously are still grieving for the death of Steve Irwin and this just adds to it. As I mentioned in Glen’s Sport Talk blog, it’s like Princess Diana’s passing plus one more. And don’t forget Colin Thiele and the Democrats founder Don Chipp passed as well! It’s all happening at once…
Onto my daily blogging now, America’s Next Top Model Cycle 7 is ready to begin! New dramas, new challenges the potential (notice I said potential) models must face, and new outfits and hairstyles for Tyra to get herself into.
ANTM has catapulted many girls into fashion model campaigns. This cycle see a whole new batch of wannabes vying for the modelling contract, a photoshoot with Tyra, and a CoverGirl contract as well (it may have changed but I’m assuming it’s still going to be sponsored by the same people for now). This new season even has twins competing against each other which may be quite interesting.
ANTM Cycle 7 has started its season on a new network in America (it was previously on UPN). From my very basic research (showing that’s how much I care about it being moved to a new channel), it’s UPN and WB mashed together as one channel while they cease to exist as independents. Now, why couldn’t they call it UPNWB for easy reference in case you just crawled out of a hole after 11 years? Not likely it seems. CW is a new and trendier network aimed at a younger target audience unlike CBS, and others.
So the 13 girls who are picked are about to endure the torture of living in a sharehouse and having to get the right shot each week or be eliminated from the competition. Doesn’t sound very hard, does it? You thought wrong. From little snippets of poor quality videos that I managed to view on the new CW website, the chosen girls get settled in the new house but oh looky here! Not enough beds! So what does the odd one out do? Claim her territory like a cat by urinating on it.
Okay, she doesn’t really do that but she pours bottled water on someone else’s bed and then lies on it. The unlucky girl who got kicked out of her own bed looks at it in horror seeing the mess made. Oh the drama!
We also have a Middle Eastern chick vying for the title. Injecting a bit of variety on the show, she has EXTREMELY long black hair and if they want to cut it I say screw them! I once had long hair like hers and one day I cut it…it was never the same again. Then again, I don’t have people fussing over my tresses every day so she may be lucky. But dibs on her that she makes it halfway through then be cut because ‘she isn’t what they’re looking for’.
Right…
I’m very perplexed about the twins going against each other. Sure, makes great TV but if one gets through but the other doesn’t that’s gonna be tough. Wouldn’t the rejected one feel like they are the uglier twin? Cos that would really suck. I hope they talked about what would happen if one made it but the other didn’t…
One thing that really bugs me about this show (as much as I love it), is how skinny the girls are. Sticks – that’s what they are! They should have more curvier chicks who are healthier and can relate to the public more than these girls who designers want just cos ‘the clothes fit better on girls who have no boobs and hips cos that’s our vision for our clothing range and what everyone else in the world looks like’. Well, that may not be true but that’s how I see the fashion world and the trends that come out sometimes eg pencil skirts for girls who worked hard to get a bum that looks good wearing jeans. Outcome? Not good.
Anyways the fashion side should be left for Sisi to commentate on, I’ll stick to TV
